Improvement Committee report for Clean Up Day

Clean Up Day was Saturday morning May 11. Volunteer group met at 4 way stop at Wendwood and Wendy. We then proceeded to bottom of “Danger Hill” (Wendview Lane) and cleared tall weeds along roadside before they could tsunami onto the roadway. Then went to dead end of Wendwood Dr and cleared some debris and weeds. Finally went to vacant house at Wendwood and Wendmead and cleared weeds and tree debris along Wendwood Dr side. Total time was one and a half hrs. Our thanks to Leon Cox, Keith Reichenbach, Bert Blenner, David Jaracz, and 12 year old Christopher Harmon for volunteering their services. Our special thanks also to Tom at 3145 Wendview Lane who was mowing his lawn and used his mower to mulch the cut weeds.

Rain, Rain, Go Away. We did get a little rain, but that did not prevent the 58 folks who came to the Wendwood BBQ Challenge and Neighborhood Block Party from enjoying lots of good food, fellowhip and fun. Kids had a great time with chalk, beanbag toss, bubbles, slinky’s etc. THANKS to Chase and Rosemary Withrow for hosting this fun event. If you were not able to attend – you missed a great gathering.

Congratulations to Ryan Byars – the winner in the BBQ Challenge (GREAT BBQ Ryan).

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am aware that several emails and texts are circulating regarding the following incident that took place on Hembree Road. This incident is being followed up on by the Crimes Against Children’s Unit as a matter of precaution due to the complainant’s age.

On Monday, May 6, 2013, a teenage female was walking home from school on Hembree Road. A male in a yellow van stopped and offered her a ride which she declined. The male drove off and returned a short time later. He inquired about her age and complimented her appearance. He then provided a business card to the female and asked her to call himsometime.

The male did not make any threatening actions toward her nor did he attempt to forcibly get her into the van. It does not appear at this time that any criminal act occurred.

While understandably, any type of incident involving a young person causes alarm, I would ask that you do not forward any emails or texts other than this official version of the incident.

This incident provides an opportunity to remind your children and teenagers that they should never engage in conversation nor accept anything offered by someone in a situation such as this. Should they feel threatened, they should run to a nearby house or business or flag down passing motorists to draw attention to themselves and the situation. Police should then be notified as quickly as practical so that officers can check the area and attempt to identify the individual.

Thank you

ALERT from Cobb Police

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In the early morning hours of Friday, 4/5/13, and into the weekend we experienced a trend of Entering Autos in the 412 Beat area in Subdivisions off Shallowford and Childers Roads.

The Entering Autos occurred in Clary Lakes subdivision off McPherson Road, Coventry Green, Chimney Lakes and Garrards Crossing subdivisions off Childers Road, Plantation North subdivision off Shallowford Road and as far south as Glenbrooke subdivision off Post Oak Tritt.

The offender(s) targeted items of value left in open view, smashing windows to gain entry.  In several incidents bags were taken containing documents and text books only. Unlocked vehicles were also entered.

There is currently no suspect description. If anyone saw suspicious activity in those subdivisions during this time frame, please notify the Cobb Police Criminal Investigation at Pct 4 at 770-499-3962 or 770-499-3997.

On a positive note, Pct 4 Morning Watch officers were able to make an arrest on an Entering Auto perpetrator Monday morning 04/08/2013 on Nicholas Court off Post Oak Tritt. The suspect was seen after 6:00 AM entering vehicles and the witness called 911.  The investigation is ongoing into whether this suspect is related to the other Entering Autos.

This type of crime tends to spike as the weather warms up. Please remind everyone to remove all valuables or anything that may appear to contain valuables from their vehicles every night and lock the doors. Close and lock garage doors and leave on exterior lighting.

Thank you
